Archery Hunting with Battle Creek Outfitters
Whether you are a beginner in the sport of archery hunting or you have many years experience at it, there is no greater thrill to the avid hunter than "bugling in" a fully mature bull elk to within ten yards while archery hunting. This is the type of experience and opportunity we try to achieve for all of our clients. For some, this may become a reality; for others their opportunity may be different. Very few of our guided archery hunters go home without a realistic opportunity at an elk, unfortunately opportunity does not always equal success. We operate our guided archery hunts as combination elk and mule deer hunts. We encourage our clients to do the combo hunts as opportunities can present themselves at anytime and over the years we have had many a hunter that wished they had gotten that extra tag. Our archery hunts take place during the rut for elk and as you know this is the best time for bugling in those large herd bulls. Bucks during this time may still be in velvet or will just of shed their velvet. They are often times not as weary as they would normally be during their rut later in the season and this makes them more approachable for the archery hunter.
Our archery hunts take place during the last week in August through the third week in September and are six day hunts. This can be a very warm time of year, temperatures in the 80's or higher are not uncommon. Hunter conditioning plays an important role when temperatures get high as well as preparation, please practice, practice, practice with your archery equipment. The single biggest reason for missed opportunities we have found over the years is lack of preparation. For the do-it-yourselfer, we offer the Maury Mountain Ranch. This ranch has a lot of animals and opportunities should be abundant for the serious archery hunter. On unguided hunt meals are the responsibility of the hunter. We will be available to offer our opinions on the most productive way to hunt the ranch should a hunter ask. We will also try to be available to assist a hunter once an animal is harvested, however on unguided hunts the hunter should be prepared to handle this on their own.
